WELL begun is half done. In this notebook Helvetica evolved from letter, to font, to typeface. It belonged to Eduard Hoffmann. He created, together with Max Miedinger one of the world most beloved typefaces. Hoffmann documented every single developmental step for each and every letter, numeral, and special character in all available point sizes of the bold, regular, black and italic. The entries begin on November 16, 1956 and end on July 21, 1965. And, judging from the address stamped in the right corner, it happened all behind the doors of Sevogelstrasse 56 in Basel.
The cover of the journal is published in a new book by Lars Müller Publishers: Helvetica Forever. More pages from the notebook of Hoffmann are shown in the book.
